Tide Data

The data used to make our tide posters is calculated using a "Finite Element Solution," a numerical method used for solving partial differential equations that describe the behavior of tides in the oceans. It incorporates factors like gravitational forces, bathymetry, and oceanographic parameters to provide accurate predictions.

The model is crucial for navigation, climate studies, coastal management, and scientific research, offering valuable insights into tidal variations and sea level changes. Due to the nature of the FES model, our tidal predictions around rivers can become less accurate.

Tide estimates are based around Lowest Astornicmal tide and therefore may differ from other tidal predictions services (such as the Admiralty) and thus, should not be used for navigational purposes.
